KINGSTON POLICE SEEKS PUBLIC ASSISTANCE
Kingston Police are again appealing to the public for information on a home invasion in downtown Kingston. On the night of June 14, two men forced their way into a home near Bagot and John Streets. The pair demanded money from the occupants. Police believe the home was targeted. Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crimestoppers.

PEC STATE OF EMERGENCY CANCELLED
A state of emergency in Prince Edward County is now cancelled. The advisory was put in place May 9th due to flooding from elevated water levels on the Bay of Quinte and Lake Ontario. The county will set up bins for residents to drop off sandbags and flood-related debris.

SLOW PEDLER CHARGED WITH DRUG TRAFFICKING
A 31 year old Odessa man couldn’t peddle fast enough to get away from Kingston Police. An office noticed a man and woman at Memorial Center Wednesday morning. The pair quickly spilt when they saw police. The man hopped on his bike and tried to pedal away. Police caught up with him a short time late. A search turned up quantities of crystal meth and fentanyl. The man is now facing drug trafficking charges.

ONTARIO TICKET SALES REFORM
The Canadian Press has learned that Ontario will announce reforms to ticket selling legislation on Monday. Public consultation by the province’s attorney general revealed widespread support for more transparent sales and more rules for resellers. The results of the survey, which reached nearly 35-thousand people, are to be made public this morning. An outcry from fans shut out of The Tragically Hip’s tour last year prompted the Ontario government to take a look at the issue.

SEARS CLOSING STORES
Sears Canada has announced it will close dozens of stores across the country including one in Kingston. The retail giant received protection from its creditors in court yesterday so that it could carry out a restructuring plan. Sears will close 59 stores and lay off 2,900 of its 17,000 employees. Sears Home store in the Rio Can Centre will close. It’s not known how many local jobs will be lost.

OTTAWA AIRPORT POLICE TO CARRY RIFLEs
Police officers who work at the Ottawa International Airport will now carry military-style carbine rifles. The rifles have been used by Ottawa police since 2006. Ottawa Police Airport Staff Sergeant Atallah Sadaka says the move is a preventive measure and not in response to any particular threat. Police say the move will simply provide a higher degree of safety for travellers at the Ottawa International Airport. The move comes as Ottawa prepares for a massive Canada Day celebration — officials predict more than 450,000 people could descend on Parliament Hill and other parts of the capital.

STOREFRONT FRINGE KICKS OFF TODAY
Kingston’s inaugural “Storefront Fringe Festival” kick off today at 3 venues in downtown Kingston. Venues include 259 Princess, the former Indigo, 274 Princess Street, the former American Apparel and 177 Princess Street, the former X O Lounge. The show features magic, theater music and more.
