SMITHS FALLS FIRE
Firefighters from numerous departments were called Friday morning to help battle a blaze at a 22 unit apartment building in Smith’s Falls. Crews were called to the scene shortly after 11am. Three police officers had to be taking to hospital and were treated with smoke inhalation. Damage is estimated at $750,000 dollars.

THREE VEHICLE COLLISION
A three-vehicle collision between a mini-van, a truck and a car closed down part of  Highway 38 and Gorr Road on Saturday. The truck, which was carrying a couch at the time, rolled over and the occupant required extrication.  Luckily no one was severely injured. Police are still investigating.

CONSTRUCTION THIS WEEK
Construction continues this week on the 401 and Highway 15. The left lane and left shoulder both east and westbound are slated to be closed this morning.  And if you need to park downtown, note that the Hanson Parking garage at Brock and Wellington is closed until Friday May 19th while crews do work on the ground level near the entry and exit lanes.

KEDCO CLOSE TO FINDING NEW CEO
Kingston’s economic development office is moving closer to finding a new chief executive. KEDCO has down narrowed the list of candidates to 5. The first round of interviews to replace former CEO Jeff Garrah was held Friday. KEDCO says more than 300 people applied for the position through a head-hunting agency, which then recommended 9 candidates.

STEPS FOR LIFE EVENT HUGE SUCCESS
Kingston Steps for Life walk-a-thon was a huge success this past weekend. Over $20,000 was raised at their first event. Steps For Life raises money to help families and individuals affected by workplace injuries and death… but they also advocate for workplace safety and awareness.
