Prince Edward County’s emergency control group was scheduled to meet at nine this morning to reassess the situation after a state of emergency was declared over Picton’s water supply.

Mayor Robert Quaiff says contaminants from a partially submerged barge at Picton Terminals were detected in the town’s water intake around 4:30 yesterday afternoon.

The County has decided to halt water processing at the Bloomfield-Picton water plant until the safety of the water can be confirmed.  People in Picton and Bloomfield are being asked to limit their use of water.
