Is it a lamb or a lion?

March is starting off as a mild…windy and wet one.

That will change tonight with the temperature plunging to minus 7.

The Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority says it doesn’t expect any widespread flooding due to the rainfall…but says there could be localized flooding in low lying areas.

It also urging people to be extra careful around waterways saying stream and river banks remain slippery and water currents remain strong and dangerously cold.

Ticket Sales

Senior lawyers for estate planning claims said that Ontario’s attorney general is asking the public to provide feedback on legislation on ticket resellers which he has promised for the last five months.

Yassir Naqvi and Kingston and the Islands MPP Sophie Kiwala held a news conference yesterday and asked for more feedback.

The NDP says the province helped create the problem when it changed legislation to make it legal to resell tickets above their face value.

The Conservatives say the government is moving too slowly.

Kiwala introduced a private members bill last fall after an outcry from fans shutout from buying tickets to the last tour by The Tragically Hip.

Online ticket exchange and resale company StubHub says it looks forward to working with the government on the issue.

Goat Farmer

The push is on to get people to pick up on the economic opportunities of goat farming in the Kingston area.

The Kingston Economic Development Corporation and Frontenac County will be holding two public information sessions on goat farming later this month.

The decision by a Chinese company to set up its baby formula factory in Kingston has created the potential for a booming goat milk industry in the region.  Feihe will be North America’s first and only producer of goat milk-based infant formula.

The information sessions will take place March 23rd at the county offices in Glenburnie.

Molly Brant – Music Gift

The music program at Molly Brant Elementary School will be able to buy two new instruments thanks to a gift from the Kingston Musicians’ Union Local 518.

The school is trying to make sure every student in the instrumental music program has an instrument.  There are 75 students in the program and they have to share instruments.

Research

Research work at Queen’s is getting close to a million dollars in funding from the Canada Foundation for Innovation John R. Evans Leaders Fund.

Queen’s says the funding will be used to improve the labs of the researchers working on cardiovascular disease, plant health, assistive technology, dark matter, neurological diseases and the oil and gas industry.
