Councillor Replacement

The sudden departure of Richard Allen from his position as city councillor for Countryside District won’t leave people in that district without representation.  Kingston City Council will decide on how to replace Allen when it meets on January 24th.  Mayor Bryan Paterson will represent Countryside District until the replacement is chosen.

Council will have to decide if it is going to appoint the candidate who finished second in the 2014 municipal election, take nominations and appoint someone or hold a byelection.

Belle Park

City staff will study options for Belle Park after city council approved the plan to review use of the park.

The public will have a chance to shape the future of the golf course and park on the former municipal garbage dump.  The Belle Park Working Group asked for the review to determine if golf should continue to be the main use or whether other outdoor recreational activity would be a better use for the land.

The Kingston Pickleball Club wants the city to invest in a facility for the site.

The city got 290 responses to a survey on Belle Park…67 people said they use it for golf, 52 use it for pickleball and 109 for walking, running or cycling.
