Fire – Rideau Street

An early morning fire has left one person with serious injuries and destroyed a home on Rideau Street.

Kingston Fire and Rescue was called to 344 Rideau Street shortly before 3 a.m.

Paramedics took one person to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Kitchen Fire

A fire in a third floor apartment at 26 Leroy Grant Drive is being blamed on someone leaving something on the stove that caught fire.  Nobody was injured in the fire yesterday morning at around 7:30.  Damage has been estimated at about a hundred thousand dollars.

MVC – 38 and Van Order

A head on collision on Highway 38 near Van Order Road sent two people to hospital with serious injuries.  Two cars collided on the highway at around three yesterday afternoon.  Frontenac paramedics treated a man and woman for serious injuries.  Highway 38 was closed for a short period of time.  It re-opened to traffic at around 4:15.

Rugby Park

The Kingston Panthers Rugby Football Club has an ambitious vision to transform Caton’s Park on Bagot Street into two full-sized rugby pitches with a multi-purpose facility and off-street parking.

The Club will present its proposal to partner with the city on the project at the Arts, Recreation & Community Policies Committee meeting tonight.

The club is offering money and its expertise and says the rugby pitches could be used for other sports to help Kingston address a shortage of facilities.

New Degree

Queen’s University and St. Lawrence College are collaborating on a new one-of-a-kind Bachelor of Music Theatre program.

The university and college will unveil the new program at a ceremony at the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts this afternoon.

The agreement will be signed by Queen’s Principal Daniel Woolf and St. Lawrence College President Glenn Vollebregt.

Online Med-School

A new website aimed at medical students has been created by a professor at Queen’s University.

Dr. Sanjay Sharma is a world leading eye specialist and has set up the free online platform for medical students.  Sharma says the lessons are designed to be short, fun and engaging so the information sticks.  Medical students from more than 50 universities have already registered.
