Tragically Hip – Broadcast

The Tragically Hip has announced its Concert in Kingston will be broadcast live by the CBC

The Tragically Hip sent out a notice this morning saying it has partnered with Canada’s national broadcaster to broadcast the August 20th show commercial free.  The sold out show at the Rogers K-Rock Centre is the last on the tour that was announced the day after the news that Gord Downie has incurable brain cancer.

The show will also be streamed live on the Internet and YouTube.

Board Chair Resigns

The chair of the Limestone District School Board has suddenly resigned.  David Jackson stepped down at the school board meeting earlier this week…due to an issue with a breach of communication.

Jackson was censured by trustees for breaching the code of conduct, with the board accepting his resignation. He will stay on as a trustee.

Nobody has said what Jackson said or did to be censured.

Deputy chair Paula Murray will take his place until a new board chair is elected in November.

Pride – St. Georges – Pulse Nightclub Prayers

People are being invited to gather on the steps of St. George’s Cathedral in Kingston to remember the victims of the Pulse nightclub shootings.  49 people were killed in the gay bar during Latino Pride night last weekend.  Bishop Michael Oulton has invited people to join him in prayer on the steps of the cathedral in downtown Kingston at noon today.

Oulton will be joined by community leaders and other faith leaders.

A book of condolences will be available for members of the public to sign and the bells of St. George’s Cathedral will toll 49 times — one for each person who was killed.

There’s no question the tragedy in Orlando will be on the minds of people attending Kingston Pride events this weekend.  Kingston Pride will raise the rainbow flag in Confederation Park tomorrow and hold activities in City Park on both Saturday and Sunday.  The Kingston Pride parade will start from City Park at noon tomorrow.

Man Charged – Domestic Violence

A 46 year old Kingston man has been charged with assault with a weapon in a domestic violence case.

Kingston Police were called to a home in the city’s west end around 2:45 Thursday morning where they found a woman lying on the ground crying.  She told officers her husband had hit her with a chair.

The man was found sleeping on the floor of the couple’s bedroom and was arrested.

Bizarre Canoe Escape

A man in his underwear yelling for help and drugs made his getaway from Kingston Police in a canoe.

Kingston Police say an officer was called to the end of Biscayne Street off Highway 15 around 2:30 yesterday morning after a resident heard somebody yelling for help near the Cataraqui River.

Police and firefighters found the man in the swamp in a canoe.  He didn’t realize who it was and said he was stuck and wanted to buy some drugs.  When he realized who it was he was able to free the canoe and paddle away.

Not only did police not get their man…officers had to return to the police station for poison ivy decontamination.
