The Queen’s University 10 year-long Initiative Campaign has raised $140 million dollars more than its goal.  The campaign is celebrating a total of $640 million in donations…and that doesn’t include $94 million in funding from various levels of government.

Queen’s says it also has more than $115 million committed in future estate gifts.

National Union President

The new president of the Union of Canadian Correctional Officers is the former Vice President of the Union and a resident of Kingston.

The union represents 7,200 correctional officers at federal prisons across Canada.

Godin was acclaimed as president at its national convention in Quebec City last week.

US Flight Delay – Professor

An award winning U-S math professor says his trip to Kingston was delayed when his plane was kept on the ground because a fellow passenger thought his math equations were Arabic and might be a sign he was a terrorist.  American Airlines confirms a woman expressed suspicions about University of Pennsylvania economics professor Guido Menzio.  His flight from Philadelphia to Syracuse last Thursday was delayed for two hours while the airline checked into the woman’s allegations.  He was heading to Kingston to give a talk at Queen’s University.

Far from being a terrorist – Professor Menzio was awarded the prestigious Carlo Alberto Medal last year as the best Italian economist under the age of 40.

Traffic Notes

The city says you can expect traffic delays starting today on Highway 15 between Innovation Drive and Gore Road as Taggart connects Riverview water & sewer mains.

Minor maintenance at the island ferry dock means the Wolfe Islander will depart 20 minutes later than usual on its late night trips from Wolfe Island.

It will be leaving the island at 11 pm, 12:20 am and 1:40 am between Monday and Friday of this week.

Departures from Kingston will remain on schedule.
