Education – Possible Strike

The Limestone District School Board says it is preparing for a strike by elementary school teachers next week.

The Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario says teachers will refuse to prepare report cards and administer standardized testing starting on Monday.

But it warns there is still the chance of a full strike if there is no progress in negotiations with the province.

The Limestone District Board says a letter will be going home to parents today with an update on the situation.

Wellington Street Extension

Kingston City Council has decided to spend $600,000 to look at alternatives to the original plans for the Wellington Street extension.

The money will be used to develop a new plan for the inner harbour.

It’s expected to take two years to develop the plan that will set development policies for the area.

City Council decided against updating an environmental assessment for the area.

It would have cost an extra $150,000.
